Numerical homogenization and synthesis of wave polarizers through the material-by-design paradigm

Abstract : A Material-by-Design (MbD) strategy isintroduced for the design of multi-layer wave polarizers based onmetasurfaces with arbitrarily-shaped unit cells. Following theMbD paradigm, the design is carried by integrating a solutionspaceexploration block, an electromagnetic simulation block(exploiting a full-wave Method-of-Moments with periodicboundary conditions), a homogenization block, and a costfunction evaluation block. Numerical example showing theeffectiveness of the proposed strategy is presented.
