Influence of electron heating and ionic motion in laser – cluster interaction

Résumé

X-ray photons in laser cluster interaction come from the deexcitation of highly charged ions formed in excited states. X-ray spectroscopy constitutes a unique tool to probe the competition between electron heating mechanisms and ionic motion during cluster expansion on a femtosecond time scale. The model we have developed allows, for the first time, quantitative comparisons with measured absolute X-ray yields and charge state distribution of the emitting ions.
