Langues iraniennes du Waziristan: faits aréaux. Ormuri de Kaniguram et pashto waziri.

Two Iranian languages are spoken in the Pakistani tribal region of Waziristan: Waziri Pashto , which has a special vocalic system, and Ormuri, which today is spoken only in the village of Kaniguram. The structural similarities between theses two languages are striking. They share a group of similar features that do not occur together in other Iranian languages, and which make this region a single linguistic zone even though, from a genetic point of view, Ormuri is a western language and Pashto, eastern. All the resemblances so far discovered point in the same direction and bear witness to a long period of contact between Kaniguram Ormuri and Pashto before the phonetic changes particular to Waziri Pashto occurred.
