Analysis of the functions of pastoral areas in forage systems in the mediterranean region

The authors propose an analysis method of landuse for livestock farming in the Mediterranean region.The approach is based on identification of functions, that is to say the defining of the objective of utilisation of each piece of land. Most of the functions concem feed and others deal with livestock or •land use constraints. Their operation expresses relative adjustment between the.supply of land available to the fanner and the requirements of his livestock. The grazing system integrates intensity of use by the livestock : intake patterns. Technical support begins with representation of the land-use system expressed as a real planned pasture grazing sequence on which comments are made.
