Bundling, Simplification de Graphes par Agrégation Visuelle : Etat de l'Art et Défis

Abstract : In the case of high density and high occlusion factor, it becomes hard to distinguish nodes and links which compose a graph. Many bundling techniques allow visual aggregation and simplification by merging links together. This creates dense areas in favor of sparse ones thus helping visual structures to emerge. In this paper, we have gathered visualization and interaction techniques that perform graph visual simplification and exploration. Our goal is to better understand existing techniques and to discuss their assets and their limitations. We also provide uses cases where these techniques are applicable. Finally we conclude by future challenges and possible evolutions of existing techniques in the area of graph visualization and exploration.
