Analyse des effets des systèmes de culture sur la flore fongique de l'épi de blé par une approche métagénomique

Abstract : Contamination of wheat grains by fusariotoxins depends on the cropping system. But it still remains difficult to understand the cropping system effects considering only the differences in wheat crop infections by the species responsible for Fusarium head blight. We hypothesize that the toxin production varies according to the whole microbiological flora which is present on the ears, as competition interference between species could be responsible for toxin production. We analysed through a metagenomic approach the whole fungi flora on wheat ears from three experimental plots of a long-term experiment in Versailles (France). Samples where harvested in 2004, and the three cropping systems were: organic farming, integrated farming, and direct drilling. Fungi communities were found to be very similar within each experimental treatment, and different between the various treatments. These data could not be linked to the differences in wheat contamination by fusariotoxins that we observed between cropping systems on the same experimental design but for other years. Nevertheless, these results gave a biological ground on the whole flora effect hypothesis to explain differences in contamination.
