SOLVING THE STOCHASTIC TIME-DEPENDENT ORIENTEERING PROBLEM

Abstract : "This paper introduces a solution procedure to solve the orienteering problem with time windows and time-dependent stochastic weights (TD-OPSWTW) within a few seconds of computation time. Orienteering problems occur in logistic situations were an optimal combination of locations needs to be selected and the routing between these selected locations needs to be optimized. For the deterministic problem, the travel time between two locations depends on the departure time at the first location. For the stochastic variant, the travel time between two locations is a stochastic function that depends on the departure time at the first location. The main contribution of this paper is the design of fast and effective algorithms to solve this problem. In addition, realistic benchmark instances with varying size and properties are constructed based on a realistic road network with a historic travel time profile for every road segment. Preliminary experiments compare the results of the proposed algorithms."
