Modeling and analysis of a planetary roller screw
Résumé
Planetary roller screws (PRS) have recently received more attention, compared to conventional ball screws.
A 3D model is created of the axial stiffness and the frictional moment in the contact between the load transferring surfaces in the roller screw mechanism. The contact occurs between the screw and roller threads and between the nut and roller threads. The contact is analysed in the current work. A model of the tooth deformation of the thread is developed. At the same time, the load transfer of one thread to another was calculated according to measured geometry and form errors. This load transfer was analysed for each of the components. Over 100 calculations were performed varying all form errors statistically to obtain statistical information on the load transfer.
