Nonlinear Equivalent-Circuit Modeling of a fast Photodiode

Abstract : A new nonlinear equivalent circuit model of a photodiode is proposed to describe the conversion of the laser relative intensity noise to microwave phase noise. This conversion is realized through a nonlinear RC circuit. The validity of this model has been confirmed by the good agreement between simulation and experimental results at different microwave frequencies. These simulations have been performed by using commercially available harmonic balance simulation software.
