An efficient MIMO receiver based on BP algorithm with truncated message-passing

Résumé

There is a common understanding that using Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) transmission techniques improves the capacity of wireless channels [1]. Associating MIMO techniques with Forward Error Correction (FEC) codes is efficient to achieve reliable digital transmissions. It becomes particularly appealing when a MIMO scheme is concatenated with a Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) code. A low-complexity BP-based layered detection and decoding for NB-LDPC coded MIMO system is detailed. A division by ten of the number of operations in the low-complexity BP detector is obtained with a negligible performance penalty when compared to the full-complexity BP. On the other hand, a division by four of the number of operations in the low-complexity BP detector is obtained when compared to the full-complexity ML targeting the same performance. In addition to the observed complexity gains, the low-complexity BP detection greatly reduces iterative receiver latency making such a solution particularly suited for a hardware implementation.
