La catégorie de mobilité naturalisée par les lieux de passage : étude de la publicité à l’aéroport de Roissy Charles-de-Gaulle

Abstract : This paper aims to identify the logics of the categorization of mobility through the study of advertising in an important place of travel: Paris Charles de Gaulle airport. It draws on an exhaustive body of advertisements presented at the airport, on a series of interviews with the players of the advertising field and with 48 departing passengers. The category of mobility at stake in the advertisements is situated in the context of the advertising industry, of the placing of advertisements and their reception at the airport. The analysis shows that transportation places are privileged places for expressing and reproducing a vision of the social world of social elites for which the use of air transportation is conceived as a paradigmatic example of expression of social status through spatial mobility.
