Maoris, missionnaires protestants et catholiques face à la colonisation britannique et au traité de Waitangi en 1840

Abstract : While the Protestant and Catholic churches evangelize New Zealand, England comes to take possession of the country by making accept a treaty in Waitangi on February 6th, 1840. Causing a real upheaval of the New Zealand microcosm, this treaty acted as a revelation of the stakes and interests which preoccupied the various local actors. The event aroused numerous questioning, oppositions and ended in paradoxical and unforeseen consequences.
