QUIVER: an Informed Virtual Environment for Thermal Data Perception for Housing

Résumé

In many virtual reality applications of spatial navigation for housing and more precisely in architectural applications, the navigation is limited to a real time visualization of structures, furniture and illumination effects. The purpose of our work is to add thermal feedback to the navigation using dynamic thermal modelling of the whole building behaviour (roof, walls, glazing, air temperature, etc.). In this paper we present the concept of an informed virtual environment by which any thermal feedback can be displayed to perceive cold or warm differences in virtual rooms. We calculate an estimation function of perceived comfort from data provided by a thermal building simulation code. The results are converted in perceptive data. The approach is illustrated by preliminary results.
