D'un palais (1643) l'autre (1668) : les bibliothèques Mazarine(s) et leur décor

Abstract : A reexamination of archival ressources for the history of the palais Mazarin, and analysis of newly found documents allows to trace with precision the localisation of parisian libraries owned by cardinal Mazarin, from the hôtel de Clèves, to the hôtel de Chevry-Tubeuf, and then to its present site. This inquiry focuses on the decoration of the great galery designed for the library from 1646 to 1648, and identifies artists and craftsmen responsible for its setting in 1648 and its transfering in 1668. In discussion too : the classical interpretation according to which the Mazarine Library introduces in France the architectonical model of the modern library.
