Optimal extended optical flow subject to a statistical constraint

Résumé

In this paper, the authors propose a method to build intermediate images between two cardiac Magnetic Resonance Images for generating an apparent continuous motion, using the optimal extended optical flow. In this case, the authors determine the optimal velocity of the optical flow equation by minimizing the kinetic energy to transport the starting image towards the ending image. Using a reference medical image dataset, they are able to add a statistical constraint in order to control the transport process. Due to the complexity of the optimal velocity computation for greater dimensions than 1, the authors present a 1-D example.
