A novel projective stereological image analysis method to estimate particle size and shape distributions
Résumé
The aim of this article is to present a new projective stereological method that enables to estimate the size and shape of a three-dimensional (3-D) convex object from measurements only made on its two-dimensional (2-D) projections. To do so, some geometrical and morphometrical measurements on the projected shadows of the 3-D convex object are done, and its size and shape are estimated by using the maximum likelihood method. The proposed method is then applied to estimate 3-D particle size distributions during crystallization processes.
