"Entrer dans la forteresse" : pour une édition numérique collaborative et critique de l'Encyclopédie (projet ENCCRE)

Abstract : There is as yet no critical edition, either printed or digital, of the Encyclopédie. After a detailed analysis of the three existing online reproductions (alembert.fr, ARTFL and Wikisource) showing that none of them provides a strong editorial link between the work and the huge amount of research devoted to it in the last decades, this article explains the founding principles of an ambitious project aimed at filling this gap : a Digital Collaborative Critical Edition of the Encyclopédie (ENCCRE). Thanks to the most recent developments in information technology and an international pluridisciplinary team of researchers, we aim to create an innovative open access editorial platform for general readers, students and researchers, capable of reflecting completely the work's complexity and articulating closely its content with research findings. In addition, we plan a collaborative interface allowing the editorial team to carry out the work of collation, specification and critical enrichment in an intuitive way, to mutualize competences and thus provide the most lively and up-to-date edition possible, based on past and present research while stimulating new study.
