The famous sentence that Goethe wrote thirty years after the battle of Valmy has been written in 1792 by Christoph Friedrich Cotta, a brother of Goethe's Editor. Without the napoleonien complement: "... and you can say you were there".
La fameuse phrase que Goethe affirme (trente ans plus tard) avoir formulée au soir de Valmy a en fait été écrite par le frère de son éditeur, un jacobin allemand... Sans l'ajout napoléonien: "... et vous pourrez dire que vous y étiez".
