Capacité "à" ou capacité "de" ? Préposition "à" et vision ambivalente

Abstract : The French prepositions "à" and "de" are not "empty" since their function is not only of a syntactic nature. After recalling the criterion of presupposition, used in some previous works, and showing its insufficiency, we present our functional analysis, according to which expressions with "à" followed by an infinitival complement are used when the speaker's intention is to present a fact in an "ambivalent" way, whereas expressions with "de" indicate a "monovalent" vision of a fact. We also show that the "ambivalent vision", related to the preposition "à", underlines different specific meanings, notably in evaluative and polemic contexts.
