Distributed Dynamic Mobile IPv6: Design and Evaluation
Résumé
IP mobility management has a key role in wireless networking and mobile Internet. The existing IP mobility protocols are deployed generally in a centralized manner. All the data traffic passes through a centralized entity and all the bindings are managed at this entity as well. Recently, various efforts from both industry and academia are being performed on specifying Distributed Mobility Management (DMM). DMM is considered as a promising approach and is expected to enhance significantly the mobility management performance. In this paper, we propose a novel DMM scheme based on Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6) that provides local and global mobility support in a distributed and dynamic manner, named Distributed Dynamic MIPv6 (DDM). Then, we carry out a performance analysis in terms of mobility costs. The results show that DDM outperforms MIPv6 significantly in optimizing the network resources and their consumption.
