Traduction artistico-littéraire de la dissidence dans l'Espagne franquiste (1936-1975)

Abstract : After the traumatism of the republicans' defeat that deprived Spain of ninety percent of its intellectuals, the franquist repression struck liberal representatives of culture : the persons who didn't manage to exile themselves were persecuted. Consequently, the country passed through a long time of cultural indigence where was proscribed all that looked like literary or artistic avant-garde. Endeavouring to re-educate mentalities, tastes and to shape the youth according to its criteria, national Spain purged the teaching profession from which six thousand members were shot down, seven thousand imprisoned and two-thirds of schoolmasters dismissed. It enforced catechism in schools, the dominating influence of clergy in instruction, in the University and the recently set up Superior Council of Scientific Research (CSIC). According to if they related in a regretted past or in exactions of the dictatorship, the immaterial historic events and the commemorative sites where they had taken place, aroused nostalgia or revolt, but by what esthetics dancers, singers, authors, painters, sculptors or film-makers sublimated these emotions? Through some examples, we will try to see how cultural movements, heirs to the two suppressed regional autonomies and to artistic avant-gardes, attempted to survive or resuscitate by poetizing history.
