Abstract : In the beginning of the 1990s, urban politics claimed that residents were citizens and must be taken as such by public agencies, notably schools. Some initiatives were taken in that perspective but they often fell short . The chapter is based on a two-year initiative involving teachers and residents in two Marseille working-class neighborhoods.
