Coping with globalization: What are the driving forces of openness and spatial dynamics of innovation ?
Résumé
Current debates on globalization often mask the real underlying characteristics of the phenomenon. As often occurs in economics, these characteristics may appear to be paradoxical or even contradictory. We would like to examine in particular two combined, broad topics regarding innovation in the framework of globalization. On the one hand, it is widely recognized that spatial considerations increasingly matter where innovation is concerned. But the relationship between innovation processes and the determinants of territorial competitiveness often remains a source of debate. The second broad topic is linked to the multidimensional nature of innovation processes, the ways they evolve, their degree of openness and the influence of new production models on the dissemination of innovation across territories, both locally and globally.
