Spherical harmonic Lattice Sums for Gratings
Résumé
In this chapter we show how lattice sums of spherical harmonic partial wave functions can be employed to calculate the properties of 2D monolayer gratings and linear chains composed of discrete particles. These methods are developed in a Green function and T-matrix formalism which allows one to extract both near and far field response properties. The more difficult problem of characterizing quasi-modes (i.e leaky modes) is also addressed. Technical aspects of how to efficiently regularize the lattice functions are discussed in some detail. Efficient algorithms for evaluating the special functions involved are also presented.
