A cryogenic payload for the 3rd generation of gravitational wave interferometers

Résumé

► The paper presents the R&D of cryogenic mirror system for ET project. The cryogenic mirror system is one of key technologies that characterize ET with the adoption of underground. Since ET increases the frequency band of gravitational wave towards a few Hz, the success of ET project will expand the observation volume of the universe, which certainly widens our knowledge of the Universe. ► ET adopts silicon mirror and the laser wavelength is 1.54 micron. Since heat produced in the input test mass is extracted through suspension fiber, the design of the ET suspension is pursued to meet the requirement to optimize the heat flow with minimizing the mechanical vibration. In this paper, the author firstly designed the suspension system utilizing the technique applied to Virgo suspension system and experimentally tested the cooling performance. The result of this experiment is the basis towards the realization of the cryogenic mirror suspension system for ET.
