Significant electrochemical performance improvement of TiSnSb as anode material for Li-ion batteries with composite electrode formulation and the use of VC and FEC electrolyte additives

Résumé

We report significant electrochemical performance improvement for micron size TiSnSb negative electrode material for Li-ion batteries when formulated with the carboxymethyl cellulose binder and carbon nanofibres and cycled in fluoro ethylene containing electrolyte. It displays a high capacity of approximately 600 mAh g−1, a cycle life of more than 400 cycles, and satisfactory rate capability with a capacity of 250 mAh g−1 even at a rate of 4 Lithium per unit formula in half an hour. TiSnSb could favourably compete with silicon if the practical gravimetric capacity is considered.
