Comment enquêter sur les diachronies courtes et contemporaines ?

Abstract : Diachronic studies have long focused on ancient stages of the language. But some linguists have recently claimed that the contemporary form of language should also be examined with a diachronic look. This paper raises some issues that appear when such a methodology is applied to contemporary French. Is there a specificity in trying to approach linguistic change in progress ? What kind of corpora should be searched and investigated in order to locate and analyse the diffusion of newness ? Should the researcher take into account the numerous metalinguistic remarks that the new media display ? Through the example of some changes in phraseology traced in corpora from contemporary media and throughout a limited number of years, some statements are made in this paper as regards the simultaneous exploitation of both linguistic and metalinguistic resources.
