Pour ou contre la console professeur ? : Le Laboratoire multimedia communicatif : une option économique mais évolutive

Abstract : We describe a language laboratory which we have set up and upgraded over the last six years but which does not have a master console. It is a networked multimedia system hooked up to Internet and as such it can be considered a cheap alternative to current commercial solutions. As it is not dependent on proprietary hardware and software, it is all the more free to exploit the latest advances in electronic communication and web-type software. After an explanation of the communicative approach adopted within the context of multimedia language laboratory teaching, we show how comprehension and speaking skills can be practised without the need to acquire additional commercial software. Moving ahead of current educational software exercises, our approach seeks to enhance the creative aspects of our students' communication skills.
