Algorithm for delay estimation based on semi-Markov model of network traffic

Abstract : An algorithm for delay estimation of network traffic based on semi-Markov model was proposed, by which, the probability of a delay larger than a certain value can be estimated. The estimated value can be used to select control algorithms and strategies for networked control. First a model of network traffic was established by using the theory of semi-Markov. Then the function between delay and queue length in the node, as well as the function between queue length and network traffic were founded. A delay probability was deduced, that was calculated by a novel approximation algorithm. The computation complexities were analyzed. Itö Integral was used for Brownian Motion's integral calculation. Simulation results show the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed algorithm.
