Fourth helix: sustaining research diversity The social turn of science and technology policy. The case of Japan.

For the last fifteen years, the Triple helix model had and still has a growing influence in all advanced industrial societies, at the regional, national and local level. Interpretations and implementations of the model differ according to contexts. The strong impact of the Triple helix model leads to a better understanding of its presuppositions and consequences. The adoption and adaptation of the model have transformed this conceptual construct into an international norm. At the same time, some counter productive effects can be identified and anticipated.
