Modal energy transfer from geometrical nonlinearities in a tree-like structure

Résumé

A modal energy transfer mechanism caused by geometrical nonlinearities is identified and characterized in a cantilever Y-shaped structure. Dynamical analysis of a simple two-degree-of-freedom model allow to assess the parameters regulating this mechanism. A numerical simulation of the dynamics of a finite-element model exhibits the same mechanism.
