Borel, Fréchet, Darmois La découverte des statistiques par les probabilistes français.
Résumé
In this paper, we study the role played by mathematicians Emile Borel, Georges Darmois and Maurice Fréchet when they presided Paris Statisti- cal Society respectively in 1922, 1938 and 1948. The evolution of statistics in France towards an increasing presence of mathematical methods is illustra- ted by their action at the head of the Society and revealed in the inaugural speeches they pronounced when they took office.
