Sagesse et résignation
Résumé
For the average man, wisdom is perceived as a passive attitude, regarding the circumstances, fortunes or misfortunes that may occur in the course of human life. Though wisdom is a virtue that corresponds to a certain frame of mind in the face of the human condition, nevertheless, as Sophia, it becomes a certain form of science. This is why it cannot consist of a resigned attitude or passive submission towards anything that is beyond understanding. It can be based upon acceptation rather than resignation, that is to say the acceptance of a reality which we can understand and come to terms with, and which we will not hesitate to transform through the knowledge we may have of it.
L'opinion commune a tendance à percevoir la sagesse comme une attitude passive face aux circonstances et aux événements heureux ou malheureux qui peuvent survenir dans l'existence humaine. Cependant si la sagesse est une vertu correspondant à une certaine disposition de l'esprit face à la condition humaine, elle relève aussi de la science en tant que sophia. C'est pourquoi elle ne peut consister en attitude résignée, en une soumission passive à ce que l'on ne comprend pas. Elle ne peut se fonder sur la résignation, mais sur l'acceptation, c'est-à-dire sur l'adhésion à une réalité comprise et assumée que l'on hésitera pas à transformer grâce à la connaissance que l'on peut en avoir.
