Atom pair correlations and reduction of fluctuations

This talk discusses experiments on the atom optical analog of four wave mixing: collisions between two Bose-Einstein condensates. Correlated atom pairs are clearly observed using single particle detection of metastable helium atoms. The detector also provides other novel pieces of information about this process such as the degree of relative intensity squeezing and the coherence properties of superradiance.
