Abstract : This paper attempts to define co-occurrence as a minimal form of co(n)text, namely the context that is required for the elaboration of meaning and is a condition of interpretation. Realizing that a and b are co-occurrents merely amounts to contextualising the former through the latter. We shall thus show that working out co-occurrences is crucial in lexicometry. By suggesting contextualised forms, our approach makes lexicometry a truly lexicological –as opposed to lexicographic– and hermeneutic –as opposed to logico-formal- practice.
