Observation of the optical Peregrine Soliton

We report the first experimental observation of the optical Peregrine soliton, a novel class of nonlinear localized structure first predicted to exist over 25 years ago. Our results confirm the increasingly important role that experiments in optics play in providing insight into wider areas of nonlinear physics
