From UUV to AUV: the SCM challenge

Résumé

In this paper, the Search Classify and Map (SCM) mission is considered as a part of a global MCM (Mine Counter Measure) mission. The use of UUV (Unmanned Underwater Vehicle) for this type of mission formulates the problem of the level of autonomy that can be attributed to the robot and which part must remain the domain of human decision. Several levels of autonomous behaviour are presented which require different levels of technological development. These differences induce of course different levels of performance on the global mission.
