A simulation framework for distributed systems: An approach to the study of data exchange in distributed systems

Résumé

We endeavor to evaluate the design of a distributed system, focusing on the communications between the subsystems. The distributed system is composed of an industrial unit coupled with an Interactive Assistance System (IAS) that is a control system. Our purpose is to simulate the IAS and the industrial unit together in order to study their interoperability. The paper explains the simulation approach that allows us to (1) define skeletal models of simulation for each type of subsystem in order to easily obtain the model of the IAS, and (2) create a single model by binding the IAS model with that of the industrial unit. To illustrate our discussion, the paper presents a simplified simulation model of a real world unit coupled with its IAS. The unit realizes the final regulation of new manufactured engines. We modeled it as a single model composed of seven independent sub-models. We have chosen Arena, a discrete event simulation tool, widely used in industry (Arena 8) as our vehicle for effecting the simulation.
