Definition of a new metallic alloy for the realisation of secondary reference mass standards

Résumé

Stainless steel standards are generally used to disseminate the unit of mass to multiples and submultiples of the kilogramme from 1 g to 10 kg. The stability of the international prototype of the kilogramme (IPK) is not ensured [1], and the stability of secondary standards is even more questionable. To take advantage of the improved conservation of the unit of mass expected to result from the various experiments aimed at redefining the kilogramme [2-6], the stability of these standards must be improved. and for this new metallic alloys with which to make the standards must be characterized.
