Nonlinear continuous-discrete observers: application to emulsion polymerization reactors

Abstract : A continuous-discrete observer is proposed for a class of nonlinear systems in this paper.One of the main interests of this observer is that it can be used to accurately estimate certain parameters for which one usually requires a model.It has been applied to an emulsion copolymerization reactor, and validated initially in simulation for the case of a semi-batch styrene-butyl acrylate reaction, and then for two test cases: (a) a batch copolymerization of styrene and butyl acrylate and (b) a semi-batch copolymerization of methyl methacrylate and butyl acrylate.
