This paper presents a study concerning the implementation of the 61850 standards (TCP/IP based standards for electric substations). The integration of communication networks in critical or safety applications is nowadays a strategic research problem. The approach consists of the proposition of new architectures according to the new standard IEC 61850. We also present the development of new devices in electrical substation domain. OPNET is used as a simulation platform for evaluation of message timing.
