Active damping of 'parasitic' vibration modes of a quartz sensor

Résumé

An original control approach for active vibration stabilization of sensors made of quartz is introduced in this paper. The idea explored is to use the piezoelectric framework of sensors, with respect to their operation, so as to damp 'parasitic' vibration modes. To accomplish this, actuating electrodes are conveniently located on the device surface by means of a simple optimization approach. The proposed stabilization control is implemented and optimized for a monolithic vibrating inertial sensor made of quartz. The performance and the energy cost of modeling are compared with the experimental ones.
