Complex chemical physics IV -formation process of shake gel on the ternary system of laponite/polymer/water

Résumé

Samples consisting of clay particles (Laponite) and polymer (PEO) undergo a shear thickening through vigorous shaking by hand over a specific range of concentrations. It is known that shaking transforms them from a low viscosity fluid to a turbid gel. These samples are called 'Shake Gels' on this account. However there are very few studies about the gelation process of shake gels. Therefore the viscosity measurements were carried out throughout gelation and relaxation processes with homemade agitator system possessing the propeller-typed impeller. The results of agitating experiments indicated the shake gels become gel states above a critical rotational velocity. The gelation processes of the shake gels were represented by measuring viscosity variations quantitatively.
