Abstract : It has been revealed by our international survey on-line that a large majority of readers of the saga «Harry Potter » considers that Chemistry is the closest subject from the preparation of magic potions taught in Poudlard, the school of wizardry. In the light of this information, in order to understand the negative way that Chemistry is considered by the students, we have performed an analytic reading of the saga from the chemist's point of view. Similarities and differences have been revealed outwardly but also in the deepest motivation between the chemist's work and the wizard's activity when he prepares a potion. Tight connections between Chemistry and its ancestor Alchemia have been pointed out. Moreover similarities between the science of magic potions and Pharmacy clearly emerged. However, in spite of connections with clearly usefull activities, Chemistry is considered by the readers of the “Harry Potter” saga who have answered to our survey as a subject of little utility. Therefore, initiatives such as “La Main à la Pâte” are still of great intrest.
