The aim of this article is to overview the literature about the development of a gross motor skill in children. This revue focuses on catching and intercepting ball in flight by children from 5 to 13 years old. We analyse the development of cognitive and motor processes and their interaction. After the description of the general mechanisms involved in : predicting the ball's trajectory, synchronizing the spatio-temporal characyeristics of the stimulus with the movement, starting, carrying out and controlling the movement. We also examine the influence of "conative" factors, or factor of personality, on the behavior. We show that these operations are changing as a result of the information processing capacities across the development.
