Circulating antibodies to NO- and ONOO-modified antigens in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Alzheimer's disease and multiple sclerosis

Résumé

NO and ONOO- are involved in neurodegenerative diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Alzheimer disease, and multiple sclerosis. The direct quantification of these radical species in vivo is not relevant because not technically reliable. To overcome these difficulties, the identification of circulating antibodies directed against NO- and NO2-modified self antigens, indirectly visualized the NO and ONOO- overproduction. The present report firstly describes that immunoglobulins of G, M and A isotypes recognized a pattern of NO-modified self antigens and NO2-tyrosine for each pathology. In Alzheimer disease and secondary progressive multiple sclerosis, immunoglobulins of A isotype were found. Conversely, in remitting relapsing form of multiple sclerosis, immunoglobulins of M isotype were increased. In amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, G, M, A isotypes were found. These data opens news perspectives for the follow up of these neurodegenerative diseases.
