Décomposition de l'équilibre structural

Abstract : Based on C. Flament's formulation which differs from Cartwright and Harary's classic model for structural balance, the following hypothesis was assessed:

a) Endorsement of the first axiom (the friends of my friends are my friends) is related to a quite common cultural stereotype of the friendly aud united group ;
b) Endorsement of the second axiom (the enemies of my enemies are my friends) is related to a change in the cognitive structure aimed at coping with the stress of situations which endanger either the self or the image of the self.

Experimental results generally support the hypothesis.
