Focus et tons lexicaux: de la variété des paramètres prosodiques

Abstract : In Asian languages, lexical tones may undergo extensive variation carrying prosodic indications. Studying syllables under focus in Naxi, a Tibeto-Burman language, shows that several parameters are involved. Electroglottography, a noninvasive means of measuring vocal fold contact area, allows for the calculation of two parameters in addition to fundamental frequency, duration and intensity : one is the open quotient, which helps single out cases of emphatic stress, a (very likely universal) phenomenon distinct from prosodic focalization, and the amplitude of the closure peaks on the derivative of the electroglottographic signal. The latter measurement, DECPA, is attempted here for the first time; it helps shed light on issues of intensity and vocal effort.
