Towards an extended scalar dissipation equation for turbulent premixed combustion

Résumé

By now, the most sophisticated modelling for turbulent premixed wrinkled flames involve an evolution equation for a quantity related to the mean combustion rate in terms of mean flame surface density ∑ or mean scalar dissipation Image. Such an equation was derived by Mantel and Borghi [1] for turbulent premixed combustion in the flamelet regime but its derivation is also of interest beyond the restricted domain of flamelet combustion. In the present study, we revisit the Mantel and Borghi equation to correct to some extent the curva-ture term estimation. It is a first step towards the generalization of the equation to more complex situ-ations with finite rate combustion and/or heterogeneities in equivalence ratio.
