Overview of challenges and objectives Actors within organisations are regularly faced with a disparity between initial intentions and ensuing actions. This is a general problem and any new knowledge providing a better insight into the processes at work in such situations could lead to new methods and new instruments for collective action. This general problem can notably be seen in a hospital where members of staff attempt to coordinate their actions in order to improve the quality of care. The challenges here stem from the need to control health problems (public health, iatrogenic illness) and public spending. This joint action supposes a certain amount of work to collectively analyse the situations and issues, to input thought, to build up shared knowledge and views and to design solutions, decisions and action. All of these cognitive activities have a collective framework and involve interaction between those involved. The project therefore aims to study the cognitive processes behind the partially joint action of different people, rather than looking at this action from the point of view of the individual alone. Several research work registers will be used in this project to study and build on the issues: - In sociology, analyses performed over the last few decades have focused on the processes bringing about a shift in goals and have attempted to reconstruct the chain of pragmatic incidents and take into account the disparities between the chosen patterns of action and what actors actually do. Our project is more specifically devoted to change actions within organisations. It is also based on work to align the perspectives held by co-present actors and draws on an analysis of the efforts made by actors to “structure” situations and problems, as well as an analysis of the translation processes and the role of collective writing processes. - The disparity issue relates to the problem of producing collective micro-decisions and perpetuating these in relation to the objects mobilised or built up in the process and the traces produced. Recently, cognitive psychology has looked into the process of decision-making in cooperative systems. The instrumentation/instrumentalisation of action, including action in collective situations, is another research perspective in relation with this project. The main idea here is to understand the role and function of the instruments as action mediators. - In linguistics, recent work has focused on the corpora mobilised by the protagonists and, notably, the construction of shared concepts and interface terminologies. These studies are also linked to the development of new linguistic analysis computer tools. The problem is describing and building a model of the mechanisms behind the interactions, behind the building and tracing of the collective cognitive micro-decisions that help to perpetuate a decision, build common references and translate intentions into action.

Rappel des enjeux et objectifs Dans les organisations, les acteurs sont régulièrement confrontés au décalage qui se produit entre les intentions initiales et les actions qui s'ensuivent. Le problème est général et toute avancée de connaissance permettant de mieux saisir les processus qui se jouent dans ces situations pourrait se traduire par de nouvelles modalités et une nouvelle instrumentation de l'action collective. Ce problème général se pose, notamment, au niveau de l'hôpital, lorsque ses acteurs tentent de se coordonner pour améliorer la qualité des soins. Les enjeux relèvent de la maîtrise des problèmes sanitaires (santé publique, maladies iatrogènes) et des dépenses publiques. Cette action conjointe suppose un travail collectif d'analyse des situations et des problèmes, de réflexion, de construction de connaissances et de représentations partagées, de conception de solution, de décision et d'action. Toutes ces activités cognitives relèvent du collectif et de processus d'interaction entre les acteurs. Le projet entend donc poser la question des processus cognitifs au niveau de l'action partiellement conjointe d'acteurs hétérogènes, au lieu de l'aborder au seul niveau des individus. Dans le présent projet, plusieurs registres de travaux de recherche seront mobilisés pour aborder et construire la problématique : -En sociologie, depuis plusieurs décades, des analyses ont porté sur les processus de déplacement des buts et tentent de reconstruire la chaîne des incidents pragmatiques, de prendre en compte les décalages entre les schémas d'action retenus et les jeux des acteurs. Notre projet porte plus spécifiquement sur des actions de changement dans les organisations et s'appuie également sur les travaux portant sur l'alignement des perspectives portées par les acteurs co-présents et sur l'analyse du travail de « cadrage » des situations et des problèmes par les acteurs, des processus de traduction et du rôle des processus d'écriture collective. -La question du décalage renvoie à celle de la production des microdécisions collectives et de leur pérennisation en relation avec les objets mobilisés ou construits et les traces produites. La psychologie cognitive, récemment, s'est intéressée aux prises de décisions dans les systèmes coopératifs. L'instrumentation/instrumentalisation de l'action, y compris dans les situations collectives, est une autre perspective de recherche par rapport à laquelle se situe le présent projet. Il s'agit notamment de comprendre le rôle, la fonction des instruments, en tant que médiateurs de l'action. -En linguistique, des travaux récents s'intéressent à la question des corpus mobilisés par les protagonistes et, notamment, à la construction de concepts partagés et de terminologies d'interface. Ces travaux sont liés également au développement de nouveaux outils informatiques d'analyse linguistiques. Le problème est de décrire et de modéliser les mécanismes d'interaction, de construction et de traçages des microdécisions cognitives collectives qui contribuent à pérenniser la décision, à constituer des références communes et à traduire les intentions dans l'action.
